Wine School: Training the palette

RB Grape Harvest croppedDesigning a menu is not all about the exquisite dishes – there’s an art to picking wines that compliment them perfectly.

That’s why, as part of our ongoing development, our management staff are given expert wine training.  It’s a hard life here at Fosters, but someone’s got to do it!

This September, Lucy from Enotria paid a visit to our head office to take us through their expert ‘Serving Wine with Confidence’ training, which involved getting to know the wine-making process as well as the aromas and flavours of the wines we serve.

Lucy gave us a virtual tour of wine-growing regions around the world and the grape varieties grown there, as well as taking us through the wine-making process itself.

First, to get our noses ready to try the wines, we were challenged to identify different aromas and group them accordingly. And you’ll know that we’re never one to shrink from a challenge!

And then came the tasting: eight delicious and diverse wines from the Fosters wine list, imported from wine regions across the globe. We learnt how to identify their flavours and the types of dishes they compliment.

A totally fascinating experience and one we’ve all learnt lots from. Needless to say we’re looking forward to the next one already!
